AROA CASTRO

I often ask myself what a portrait truly is. When reflecting on it, I realize that for me, a portrait is not just a photograph of a person, but something that reveals a part of their personality.

While developing this project, I asked each participant for their own definition of a portrait. Every answer was different, shifting from one person to another. I then took what could be considered a “traditional” portrait of them. Afterward, I asked each person what the first thing is they notice when meeting someone for the first time. What they didn’t know was that their answer would determine the next person’s portrait.
